WATCH THE MOVIEBorn on Sal in Cape Verde, Mitu pioneered strapless kitesurfing because he simply couldn't afford straps.
Having inspired a whole generation with a new discipline, he became a star but it’s his friendliness and open spirit that turned him into an icon.
Today, he lives happily between worldwide coaching and a family life, raising three boys who will most likely follow his path.
STAY ICONIC.
Once upon a time, there was a young Cape Verdian who saw a kite for the first time... Let's say that my story with a kite begun a long time ago, over 20 years ago. When you live in a small island in the middle of the ocean, you don't see many innovations until somebody brings them to you.
I can still remember that guy who let me try his kite. He was here on holidays with this new toy and a theory book. I left the theory for him and I directly went for the kite! I used to windsurf at that time too, and I found kiting way too easy to learn. In a few weeks, I was landing some tricks already. To be honest, I actually got bored and came back to windsurfing, until the moment I put together my surf board and the kite... There, my story began.
Put the money on a savings account, then go fishing and have good sushi!
Surf Teahupo'o and become a father.
I go surf foiling or spearfishing.
